Patricia Casey, a partner in Haynes and Boone’s Business Litigation Practice Group, has been named president of the Association of Women Attorneys (AWA) for the 2008-2009 term.

"The founders of AWA started this group to provide a basic network of support when women attorneys were rare in Houston," Casey said.  "Today, the AWA has a more modern mission of providing a broader platform on which women attorneys of all types can stand."

AWA’s newly slated board leadership also includes Immediate Past President Teri Walter of Walter Law Firm, PC; President-Elect Pamela Powell of Cenatiempo & Ditta, LLP; Treasurer Alia Vinson of Allen Boone Humphries Robinson LLP; Secretary Janet Beck of Fong & Associates, LLP; and Newsletter Editor Whitney Blair of AlliantGroup.

The Association of Women Attorneys was organized in Houston, Texas, in 1976 to promote and support opportunities for women attorneys and broaden and strengthen their role in the legal community.  Today the group continues to support its more than 200 members by working towards the elimination of discrimination against women attorneys, promoting a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experiences, and increasing and improving job opportunities, legal education and professional growth opportunities.
